What is AIM?
AIM is the London Stock Exchange's market for smaller companies. When created, the object was to provide a framework and service akin to the main exchange without all the legal jargon that puts many smaller business holders off, and to offer AIM listed companies the chance to raise capital in similar style to their larger peers. This had to be done in an orderly and well managed fashion so that potential investors would not be put off.
Since AIM's inception, in 1995, there have been more than 2500 AIM listed companies. These companies vary between the small venture capital inspired start-ups, to developed companies with an eye to the future. The common denominator was and still is a desire to grow. AIM listed companies have benefited from £34bn in IPOs and other capital injections, in their quest to grow and develop, and many have gone on to join the full exchange market.
To become one of the next AIM listed companies you don't need to
You do need to want to have the chance to raise capital, helped by AIM's Nominated Advisors (NOMADS), and to work within a flexible framework where the regulations are easy to understand and not couched in technical jargon. AIM listed companies get the benefit of AIM's experienced professional specialists to help them through the admissions process right through until they get their AIM quotation, and then on as they continue to grow.
